Messerschmitts over the Alps...

On this page I will present the collections of my own paint schemes (Skinpacks/MODS) for Bf-109 G-Series assigned in the Swiss Air Force, which I release for the public use in the Simulation :)

All Skinpacks used beside the respectivly Alpha Channel also my own version of the Bump Map/Normal Map File in 4k resolution, which suited my paintschemes better than the original one. Downloading the MOD File and using a MOD Manager (like JSGME) you install and deinstall easily the skinfiles and the new Bump Map/Normal Map!

Therefore a safety copy of the original Bump Map/Normal Map is not necessary!

Bf-109 G6 assigned as J-704 to Fl Kp 7, Interlaken in August 1944

Skinpack for IL2 BOS Series

The Swiss Air Command decided to buy Bf-109 G6 planes from Germany in order to strenghten their air combat units in February/March 1944. 12 (twelve) planes arrived between May 20th and 23th 1944 from Neubiberg in Dübundorf and were intergrated as J-701 to J-712 into Flieger Kompanie 7 at Interlaken airfield by May 26th, 1944. On of this batch was Bf-109 G6 W.Nr. 163 245 which historical ways up to 1947 is well documented in my main resource from Georg Hoch's book "Messerschmitt Me 109 in Swiss Air Force Service".

The Bf-109 G-Models was striped of their germany designation and immediatly provided with Swiss national emblems and matriculation over the german camouflage with additions to fuselage mottlings RLM 74 and RLM 75 as seen on the paintscheme represention of J-704 assigned to Flieger Kompanie 7 at Dübendorf and Interlaken in August 1944.

After an accident during static testing the plane was severe damaged and had to be rebuild at Buochs, were it also recieved a new tail section but had to be newly rebuild after on! The workshop at Buochs was responsible for all Messerschmitt planes of the Swiss Air Force, therefore all repair and refitting or even rebuilding take place in this facility.

On September 10th, 1945 the plane was overhanded to to Service again beginning the repair with new more stable "aufgestockter" tail section (In-Game represention the Bf-109G6late), motor and fuselage parts together with a new camouflage style using a base colour of Brown similar RLM 82 witch unregular rounded fields of KW 2 which is a variant of RLM 70. The markings shows the new style of with/red stripes in order to show a more marking different to the german Balkencrosses which was during the war responisble for sorties with USAAF planes entering Swiss airspace. First it was flown by Hauptmann Walter Läderach shown here with the plane in October 1945.

Skinpack for IL2 BOS Series

During a flight October 22ed, 1945 Hauptmann Walter Läderach loses the conopy in the Basel area because it was not locked correctly and J-704 was refitted with a ERLA Hood. The last day of air service of J-704 happends on November 13th, 1946 when Hauptmann Walter Widmer emergency landed the plane due to engine failure at Interlaken-Bönigen. The damage resulted in a total loss and the end of J-704 servicing the Swiss Air Force.

The forgotten History of Bf-109 G6 RU-OZ assigned as J-713 to Swiss Air Force till detection of its remains in September 1953

Bf-109 G6 RU-OZ landed in Swiss due to navigational error

Skinpack for IL2 BOS Series

One unexpected addition to the Bf-109 G6 fighter planes of the Swiss Air Force happend on March 29th, 1944 when Oberfähnrich Lothar Hirtes the Bf-109 G6 RU-OZ actually assigned to 4./JG 5 due to worst weather conditions accidentally landed at Samedan airfield, was captured and the plane assigned as J-713 to the Swiss Air Force later. The plane was a full equiped Jabo (J) Version and therefore a warm welcome addition to the workshop in Buochs were it was reassembly until end of the war due to financial non aggrement with the German Reich and with new camouflage assigned "ready for Service" on December 3rd, 1945.

The Bf-109 G6 (J) model was basically a fighter bomber in war-ready complete configuration, the plane was diassembled and taken in parts to the Gruppe Hug at Buochs workshop were it has to wait till the end of the war before it could be reassembed and provided with the now used camouflage style using a base colour of Brown similar RLM 82 witch unregular rounded fields of KW 2 which is a variant of RLM 70. The markings shows the style of with/red stripes in order to show a more marking different to the german Balkencrosses which was during the war responsible for sorties with USAAF planes entering Swiss airspace.

Skinpack for IL2 BOS Series

The plane was assigned to Flieger Staffel 7 in December 1945 and till May of 1946 flown by differentt pilots. On May 29th, 1946 Oberleutnat Zweiacken started to a flight at 15:51 hours from Emmen with direction to Tessin. Because of a thick blanket of clouds he had to redirect in direction to Engelberg and was last heard flying over Sustenpass, after that the plane disappeared and Oberleutnant Zweiacken was declared missing togehter with his plane. Until September 4th, 1953 his secret disappearing was lifted when Mountain climbers find the remains of J-713 and Oberleutnant Zweiacken on Pizzo di Rodi (Tessin). The cause of the accident is till today not known!

Emergency landed Bf-109 G14 of III./JG 3 flown by Feldwebel Siegfried Hänning assigned as J-714 to Swiss Service

Bf-109 G14 "Black Chevron 2" of III./JG 3 emerency landed in Affeltrangen December 17th, 1944

Skinpack for IL2 BOS Series

Another accident brought a Bf-109 G14 into the hands of the Swiss Air Force as on December 17th, 1944 when Feldwebel Siegfried Hänning of III./JG 3 after escaping succesfully an attack by Mustangs P-51 of the USAAF lost his way and find himself over Switzerland where he emergency landed his plane by Affeltrangen. He left uninjured and was interned. His plane was afterwards assigned as J-714 into the Flugwaffe of the Swiss Airforce. The for Swiss Air Force new and unknown "Sonder-Kraftstoffanlage MW 50" was inspected but there is no indication that it was used during the service of J-714 with the Swiss Airforce.

The Bf-109 G14 of III.JG 3 was painted in a camouflage scheme which was applied by the factories in Regensburg showing a standart RLM 74/75/76 scheme with blotches of RLM 75 and 70 on the fuselage. The W.Nr. of the plane was 262 818 which seems to be a wrong Batch number. The propeller hut showed a thicker black spiral over a white base, which was common for the Stabs Units of JG 3. The W.Nr. 262 818 is interesting, because there are no batches of Bf-109 G-models with this kind of numbers. Paperwise the 262 818 actually is registered as 462 818 and was manufactured in Leipzig in the Erla factories.

Bf-109 G14 Swiss J-714 Fl Kp 7 in Service of the Swiss Air Force till written off May 28th, 1948

Skinpack for IL2 BOS Series

The plane was assigned to Flieger Kompanie 7 in December 1945 and till May of 1946 flown by Swiss pilots. There are not many sources about the actuall flight records of J-714 nor if the plane later on was repainted with the after war colours as seen and documented for the other Bf-109 G-models. Officially in Summer 1947 all Bf-109 G fighters was finally decommissioned.

The link underneth provided you with a MOD file (handled with for example with JSGME MOD Manager) including the Bf-109 G14 paintschemes I have prepared for the History of the Bf-109 G14 of III./JG 3 and J-714 during the time periode of 1944 till the decommissioning in Summer 1947. But beside all the flaws and accidents because of war time related material issues the overall Reputation of the Bf-109 G-models servicing the Swiss Air Force was not to bad in means of overall performance and basis of a stable weapon plattform! Oberleutnant Robert Heiniger completed 168 flights flying all Bf-109 G-models besides his assigned J-708 and J-713 and accomplished 105 flying hours without a major incident.
